Theme of the Week- Poems and The Distance Around an Object
This week we are finishing our poem unit by choosing a poem that you want to read to me. We are continuing to learn about measurement with finding the distance around an object. I have added a literacy and math challenge that you can choose to do this week. Have Fun!
Literacy Challenge- Trash Ball You will need:A clean trash can or large container, Paper Get ready:choose 10 words you want to learn to spell. Go through your writing or books you are reading and write each word on a piece of paper. Then crumple the paper into a ball. How to play: Players take turns choosing a paper ball. Players will then un-scrunch the paper ball and either read aloud the word or quickly look at it, then cover up the word and spell it. If answered correctly, the player can crumple the paper up again, and try to shoot a “basket” in the trash can. For each basket scored, the player receives one point. Continue playing until all of the paper balls are in the basket, or take them out and start all over again! |

Just How Long Can a Long String Be By Keith Baker Syd the Science Kid- Nonstandard Measurement Activity: Cut a piece of string or ribbon the length of one arm. Go around your house and see if you can find a circumference (the distance around) the same length as your arm. Try to measure around a bowl, garbage can, chair seat, toy, etc.
Can you create a game or activity for your family to play outside? Write up a plan for the activity and take a picture or video of your family playing the game. Post on Class Dojo or Email.
